CREATING HIS OWN LANGUAGE

“Every artist has his own style, his own way of doing things. He creates it, develops it, expresses it, and composes it, in strict accordance with his nature. What artists call ‘creating one’s own language’ is really finding a way of expressing their own temperament. It is, in addition, finding the line that responds to their hands, selecting the colors they prefer, shaping light and shadow, always subjecting them to their inner vision. This ‘digging deep’ in forms or in oneself is evident in the works of Daniel Pontet, an Uruguayan painter residing in Miami, Florida since 1991, who has devoted over twenty years to art. In painting –as well as in any other artistic creation- the soul defines part of its essence, thus revealing something about the deep secrets of human nature. Upon creating his universe of graphic and plastic forms, allegories and symbols, real and imagined images, Pontet tries to express his feelings rather than illustrating them. We can affirm that his is a natural internal development from which emerges the overwhelming need to depict his emotions on the canvas. Technique here is only a means used to reach genuine expression.”

CREANDO SU PROPIO LENGUAJE

“Cada artista tiene su estilo, su modo, su manera. Lo inventa, lo desarrolla, lo articula, lo compone en rigurosa unidad con su ser. Lo que los artistas llaman ‘hacerse un lenguaje’ es en realidad dar a luz la expresión de su temperamento, es encontrar la línea que responde a su mano, es convenir los colores de su preferencia, es modelar la luz y la sombra, sometiéndolos siempre a su dictado interior. Este ‘escarbar hondo’ en la forma o en uno mismo queda de manifiesto en las obras de Daniel Pontet, pintor uruguayo que reside en Miami desde 1991, que lleva mas de 20 años dedicado al arte. En la pintura -como en toda manifestación artística- el alma detalla una parte de su esencia y precisamente revela de esta manera algo de los profundos secretos de la naturaleza humana. Al crear su universo de formas gráficas, de formas plásticas, de alegorías y símbolos, de imágenes vistas e imaginadas, Pontet quiere expresar sus sentimientos más que ilustrarlos. Podemos afirmar que lo suyo es un natural crecimiento interior del que surge la necesidad imperiosa de volcar su emoción en el plano. La técnica aquí solo constituye un medio para llegar a la autentica expresión."
